Adrian Peterson to Sign with New Orleans Saints
After months of speculation and rumors, Adrian Peterson has decided to take his talents to New Orleans on a two-year deal, ESPN reports.
On Tuesday morning, the former Minnesota Vikings running back revealed to ESPN’s Josina Anderson that he plans to sign with the Saints on a $7 million deal. Although the deal is virtually a one-year deal with a one-year option, the running back will receive a guaranteed total of $3.5 million at signing, which includes signing bonus and his guaranteed $1 million salary. However, for the following year, the $3.5 million, which includes a $2.4 million (total) roster bonus, a $1.05 million salary, and a $50,000 workout bonus, will not be guaranteed.
“I am excited to be joining the New Orleans Saints,” Peterson said. “I’m really looking forward to this opportunity. Most importantly, I choose this team because it just felt right within my spirit. Additionally, my wife and family added their conformation with the same feelings,” he added.
“On offense, it goes without saying that the Saints are really solid behind Drew Brees. I feel like my skill set can make them even more dominate as a unit. They have a great offensive line, which is something that stood out to me as well. I could tell from talking to head coach Sean Payton over the last two weeks that he did his due diligence in evaluating how I could contribute. I also did a lot of homework on the defense as well. While I know that injuries have played a role in performance, I also see areas of potential with a lot of younger guys having the ability to step up. Lastly, it goes without saying that the Saints have an amazing fanbase and I look forward to making them proud and creating everlasting memories.”
With Peterson’s decision to sign with the Saints, he will have the opportunity to face off against his former team in Week 1.
