Dwyane Wade Says he Has “24 Million Reasons” to Stay in Chicago
On Tuesday, reports surfaced concerning Dwyane Wade’s player option for the 2017-18 regular season. Months ago, the Chicago Bulls veteran revealed that he wanted to leave all his options open this summer as he contemplated the $23.8 million player option. As the Jimmy Butler trade talk surfaced, many believed such a move could sway Wade to ditch his hometown and take his talents elsewhere. However, despite recent rumors, Wade has informed the Bulls he will pick up his option for the forthcoming season. When asked why, Wade reportedly told TNT’s David Aldridge that he had “24 million reasons,” why he chose to stay in Chicago.
Just last year, Wade signed a $47.5 million two-year deal, which included a player option for the second year, with his hometown team after 13 seasons with the Miami Heat. In 60 games with the Bulls, the three-time NBA champion and 12-time NBA All-star averaged 18.3 points, shooting 43 percent from the floor. Although the 35-year-old baller missed the final 14 games of the season, due to injury, he came back in the playoffs, averaging 15 points and five rebounds against the Boston Celtics.
Now, as Wade prepares for his 15th season in the NBA and second with his hometown team, he is looking to continue the grind. Although his numbers have decreased with age, he still believes he is more than worthy of a $20 million deal.
“18.3 points a game in 29 min on 43% shooting at 35 years old. If I’m 25 with the same numbers I’m getting 150 million #Fading #petty,” Wade tweeted after news surfaced of his decision to pick up the option.
