Bill Cosby Says Racism May Have Fueled Sexual Assault Allegations

Since the sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby surfaced, the comedian has remained silent about the situation while his daughters have come forward to defend their dad, claiming he is not what the media has portrayed him to be. Finally, after two years, the 79-year-old actor is speaking out to reveal the details of his forthcoming trial.

In an interview with Sirius XM’s Michael Smerconish, Cosby revealed that he would not be taking the stand for the trial, adding that he would not be discussing the controversial allegations. A portion of the interview, which aired on Tuesday morning, included an interview by Cosby’s daughters, Esna and Erinn, where Cosby explained that some of the allegations brought forth against him might be fueled by racism.

“Once again, I go back to lawyers…when you have to deal with the examination, cross-examination, etc, etc…There’s more than two sides to every story – sometimes four or five,” Cosby explained when asked why he wouldn’t stand before the judge and jury to tell his own. “But I just don’t want to sit there and have to figure out what I believe is the truthful answer as to whether or not I am opening a can of something that my lawyers are scrambling [to shut].”

“I have not performed in over two years,” Cosby revealed since several dozen women accused him of sexual assault. “I have not spoken at a graduation in two years or even to speak to an incoming high school freshman…class to give them some idea of what they are going to face and what they ought to do.”

His daughters then suggested that the allegations brought forth by over 50 women may have been motivated by racism, to which Cosby responded, “Could be. Could be.”

“I can’t say anything, but there are certain things that I look at and I apply to the situation. There are so many tentacles. So many different – ‘nefarious’ is a great word. And I just truly believe that some of it may very well be that.,” he added, despite the women being of different races.

“It’s not all, not ever. But I do think that there is some [racism],” he clarified. When you look at the power structure, and when you look at individuals there are some people who can very well be motivated by whether or not they are going to work or whether or not they might be able to, um, get back at someone. So if it’s in terms of whatever their choice is, I think you can also examine individuals and situations, and they will come out differently.”

As for the interview itself, Cosby felt it was finally time to speak out, “so the people who still have faith in me, and are still wondering what I sound like,” could hear his thoughts on the entire ordeal.
