How Dangerous is Marijuana? Here is a List of Everyone Who Has Died of Marijuana Overdose
Those considering picking up a habit of recreational use of marijuana, it’s important to highlight the dangers of its use. For starters, it’s still illegal in several states, so before you decide to hang with Mary Jane on a regular basis, make sure it’s authorized. Next, we must remember that according to the federal government “marijuana is a dangerous drug, with no accepted medicinal value and a high potential for abuse,” as it remains on the DEA’s list of Schedule 1 substances, which include heroin, LSD and bath salts.
Therefore, as a Schedule 1 substance, alongside several substances with record of fatal hazards, Huffington Post has compiled a list of people who have died from marijuana overdose. See the full list below:
– No one
According to reports, there is no record of anyone dying from a fatal dose of marijuana alone, as it appears, a fatal overdose on marijuana in its most commonly consumed forms is apparently impossible.
“A smoker would theoretically have to consume nearly 1,500 pounds of marijuana within 15 minutes to induce a lethal response,” a judge said, in his argument to remove the herb from the Schedule 1 substance list in 1988. However, in a recent study, the lethal dose may be even higher. According to a 2014 analysis, a user would have to consume more than half a gram of pure THC per kilogram of body mass, which means the average American man would have to down more than an ounce and a half of 100 percent THC extract to fatally overdose, Huffington Post reports.
“That’s far more than most people will consume throughout their entire lifetime,” a scientist said of the study.
Although, no one has died from marijuana overdose, there are some dangers to the drug, as excessive consumption of a heavy dose may cause anxiety, panic, agitation and excessive slumber, but it will all wear off in a few hours.
